Successful as part of the prestigious festival "Le strade del suono" in Genoa, the Ensemble Utopia now enjoys an international echo for collaborations and performative quality. His avant-garde chamber music repertoire has always distinguished itself for the careful selection of compositional styles (Reich, Berio, Grisey, Maxwell Davies, Boulez, Romitelli etc), but in this work, the choice also concerns a symbolic will of a political and social nature. The perspective is to return an unusual image of contemporary music; a horizon in which its most cryptic and radical language can also result in pieces of historical memories, with more narrative and popular hues. Thus, like bent and dissonant strings can refer to the shady sense of oblivion, stubborn percussive timbres and devious instrumental plots become the emblem of suffering and personal calvary. But in Dangerous Zone, the evocative and involving power of the voice plays an essential role. It’s an unconventional soprano, which manages to dilate the tradition of lieder in enigmatic hisses (Larcher’s The Illness Is the Medicine I Need ), to engrave ethereal architectural lines (Berio’s O King), to capture the typical catharsis of the most passionate soul-jazz in the famous Rzewski’s Coming Together.

Eutopia Ensemble
Nasce nel 2012 a seguito dell’incontro di un gruppo di musicisti di formazione classica, compositori e strumentisti, che hanno condi- viso il sogno di confrontarsi con realtà diverse dalle usuali cornici della musica classica. Il nome Eutopia vuole suggerire, rispetto al concetto di utopia, che ci sono sogni che possono essere realiz- zati. Il progetto Eutopia si pone in e etti un duplice e ambizioso obiettivo: riportare la musica contemporanea nella città di Genova con una stagione ad essa dedicata e farlo attraverso un ensemble composto da solisti di grande valore che miri ad essere un punto di riferimento nel panorama musicale dedicato a questa letteratura.
Negli ultimi anni l’Ensemble ha realizzato cinque edizioni del Festi- val Le Strade del Suono. Fra le tante musiche eseguite da ricordare la prima nazionale di WTC9/11 di Steve Reich (prima nazionale), Luoghi Immaginari di Fabio Vacchi, Vortex Temporum di Gèrard Grisey e Professor Bad Trip di Fausto Romitelli.
L’ensemble è anche molto attivo nel campo del teatro musicale, basti ricordare la rappresentazione di In The Penal Colony di Philip Glass al Teatro della Tosse di Genova, la prima assoluta di Love Hurts di Nicola Moro al Teatro Piccolo di Milano e la prima europea dell’Opera Song from Uproar dell’americana Missy Mazzoli andata in scena al Festival Musiktheatertag di Vienna nel Giugno 2018.
Il centro del “far musica” dell’Ensemble è la ricerca di collegamenti, signi cati, terre di con ne, una ricerca che ha portato a diverse collaborazioni con artisti visuali: Pietro Puccio, Gregorio Giannotta, Luca Serra tra gli altri. L’Ensemble ha inoltre collaborato con solisti di caratura internazionale quali il baritono Maurizio Leoni, il sopra- no Livia Rado e il chitarrista Gilbert Imperial.
