Contemporary Landscape is the first phase of the three-year project "Contemporary 2021-2023" with which the FontanaMIXensemble will produce three new recordings in collaboration with three different guest artists: composer Giorgio Magnanensi, singer Cristina Zavalloni and cellist Giovanni Sollima.
The project contains within itself a reflection on the concept of the contemporary today; but it also wants to reveal how some of the working methods of an ensemble of cultured contemporary music can in some ways be very similar to those of "rock music", where there is no difference between author and performer. In the work leading up to these new productions, the musicians of the FontanaMIXensemble not only share the project each time with a guest artist but also become true co-authors of the final result. In this year's case, the Italian/Canadian composer Giorgio Magnanensi worked remotely, collecting and mixing all the compositional and sound contributions offered by each individual musician, and the proposed performance is the fruit of this compositional work and represents at the same time a different and more open version of it.

Giorgio Magnanensi, composer, conductor, teacher and artistic director of the Vancouver New Music Society, from his studio in Vancouver will follow and conduct in real time the performance in Bologna, whose focus is not so much the music as the vision of sound. Representing sound is indeed one of the unusual and investigative concerns of the Italian-Canadian musician who often calls his work a 'theatre for the ears'.
